 Party Girl

With director Daisy von Scherler Mayer

The 2017 Film Librarians Conference, Documenting Cinema: Film Librarianship in the 21st Century, presents a screening of Party Girl in 35mm.

“Indie Queen” Parker Posey stars as party girl-turned-librarian Mary in this cult classic coming-of-age story from ’90s independent cinema. The movie takes a light and comical look at New York’s underground club scene and spotlights a diverse group of characters, from the Lebanese falafel vendor Mary falls for to her Latino DJ roommate and her gay best friend.

An NYC club girl with a distinct sense of fashion, Mary begins working at a library as a clerk after she gets busted for charging admission to one of her parties. She is bored and hates her new job, but soon discovers the joys of mastering the Dewey Decimal system and begins to realize that becoming a librarian is her life’s calling.

Directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer. Produced by Harry Birckmayer, Stephanie Koules. Screenplay by Von Scherler Mayer, Birckmayer.
Cast: Parker Posey, Omar Townsend, Sasha von Scherler, Guillermo Diaz, Anthony DeSando, Donna Mitchell, Liev Schreiber, Nicole Bobbitt.
